Light from light. Athos – Byzantium – the World
In collaboration with the Hellenic Foundation for Culture (Belgrade) and the Belgrade City Museum, the Mount Athos Centre presents the painting exhibition of the painter and iconographer George Kordis, under the title of ‘Light from light. Athos-Byzantium-the World’. The exhibition will be officially opened on Tuesday 30 October 2018 in the exhibition rooms of the Residence of Princess Ljubica and will run until Friday 30 November 2018.
he exhibition will feature 76 works by George Kordis, the central section containing a series of 21 works produced by the artist exclusively for the Mount Athos Centre and which present the Athonite Saints. Also, on display will be works from older and more recent artistic output, demonstrating the artist’s use of a wide range of both themes and materials. In this section, egg tempera, inks on Lokta paper and digital works are presented, while it should be noted that one sub-section is dedicated to Byzantine personalities. The exhibition also features works from the ‘Homeric Seashores’ series.

The exhibition was shown for the first time in the Mount Athos Centre’s exhibition areas from 22 June until 15 September 2017, while a catalogue on the section featuring the Athonite Saints was published and is on sale. This publication includes texts by the eminent Emeritus Professor of Art History, Annemarie Weyl Carr, Professor of Byzantine Archaeology and Art, Department of History-Archaeology, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Thanasis Semoglou, Professor of St. Andrews University, Judith Wolfe as well as by George Kordis himself.
