‘Stephanos Dragoumis’ Auditorium of the Museum of Byzantine Culture in Thessaloniki
Once again this year the Mount Athos Center is organising its International Scientific Workshop, its now well-established annual meeting for the scientific community engaged in research on Mount Athos. The Workshop will be held on Friday 8th, Saturday 9th and Sunday 10th December in the ‘Stephanos Dragoumis’ Auditorium of the Museum of Byzantine Culture in Thessaloniki.
This annual event serves to promote one of the main aims of the Mount Athos Center, which is to stimulate a fruitful academic dialogue that enriches and broadens the subject-matter of the research on Mount Athos.
It should be borne in mind that, as was stressed in the statement made by the Scientific Committee at the First Workshop, the aim of the international scientific workshops is to highlight original findings and syntheses from the research on Athos that will help to promote scientific research on Mount Athos in general, and also to present the research questions and/or the initial findings of new individual or collective research projects that are currently in progress and whose results are not necessarily conclusive.

As usual, this year’s selection of papers covers many of the different fields of Athonite research, such as history, art, theology, law, institutions, literature, archaeology, art history, architecture, the natural environment and the conservation of art works.
This year’s Workshop sees two changes: a) the large number of papers that have been selected for presentation has led to an increase in the overall duration of the Workshop’s proceedings, and b) the sessions on Sunday 10th December will be devoted to presenting the findings of the recent excavations, the other archaeological investigations and the research on the fresco decoration in the katholikon and refectory of Vatopedi Monastery.

Certificates of attendance will be issued to anyone requesting such a certificate, provided they have attended all the sessions of the Workshop.
Throughout the duration of the Workshop there will be a display of the Mount Athos Center’s publications in the foyer of the auditorium, on sale at half price.
