On the occasion of Easter and the ten-yearly rite of the Preparation and Sanctification of the Holy Myrrh that takes place during Holy Week, the Mount Athos Center, in collaboration with the General Consulate of Greece in Istanbul and with the close assistance of the Consul General Mrs Georgia Soultanopoulou, presents the exhibition entitled ‘From Constantinople to Athos’, an exhibition of paintings by the hieromonk Anastasios of the Kellion of Timios Prodromos ‘Dionysios of Fourna’ at Karyes on Mount Athos.
The paintings constitute an artistic representation of the sacred Orthodox pilgrimage sites in Istanbul and the Athonite republic, portrayed from the personal aesthetic perspective of the hieromonk Anastasios.
The exhibition, which consists of 70 thematic works executed in tempera and mixed technique, will be held at the Sismanoglio Megaro in Istanbul, home of the General Consulate of Greece, from Great Monday 18 April until 30 May 2022.

Biographical note on the hieromonk Anastasios
The hieromonk Anastasios hails from Panteichion (Pendik) near Istanbul. He was tonsured as a monk at the Monastery of Koutloumousiou in 1977 and since 1982 has resided at the Kellion of Timios Prodromos ‘Dionysios of Fourna’ at Karyes, whose founder was the great teacher of the art of icon-painting, the hieromonk Dionysios from Fourna in the Agrapha region (ca. 1670-1745). Continuing the artistic tradition of his historic kellion, Anastasios serves his brotherhood in an artistic capacity by painting and writing and also tending the kellion’s garden.
Exhibitions of his work have been presented in Thessaloniki, Larissa, Veroia, Volos, Agia, Athens and Grevena, as well as in Istanbul, Moscow, Helsinki and Granada.
He has had several albums of paintings and short texts published, including Athonite Diptychs (2000), From September to August (2002), Constantinople, Paraklesis to the Virgin Pausolype (2011), Just before Dawn: How Decay is Overcome by Life (2016), That Thy Way May Be Known Upon Earth (2018) and The Life and Times of St. Savvas of Chilandar (2019), while recently his new work entitled Neomartyrs (2021) has been released.
In 2007 he republished the scholarly work by the hieromonk Dionysios of Fourna entitled The Painter’s Manual (ca. 1728-1733), which for over three hundred years has been an invaluable handbook and unique reference work for all those wishing to learn the art of icon-painting.
