Nikolaos Masteropoulos, an artist who is well known, particularly in the Orthodox world, and internationally acclaimed as an ingenious and pioneering creator and a superb artist, gained recognition during his own lifetime and was honoured by professional peer organisations, academic institutions and even state bodies in recognition of his unique contribution to the promotion of the arts and artistic techniques. Eventually, as a Christian intellectual, and seeing himself primarily as an iconographer, he went to Mount Athos, where, quietly and prayerfully, he worked with great care, humility and dedication, which explains the interest now displayed by the Mount Athos Center in promoting his remarkable work.
