The Mount Athos Center, in collaboration with the Faculty of Theology of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, is organising a presentation of the work produced by the British painter Tim Vyner during his visits to Mount Athos.

The event will take place on Wednesday 9 April 2025, at 11:00, in Amphitheatre B on the second floor of the Theology Faculty building and will commence with an opening address by the Dean of the Faculty, Protopresbyter Athanasios Gkikas. This will be followed by an address by the Director of the Mount Athos Center, Mr. Anastasios Douros, who will talk about the Center’s collaboration with Tim Vyner and the artist’s work.

Tim Vyner himself will then talk about the experiences he gained during his long visits to the Athonite state, his relationship with the monks and the portfolio he created, both during the period 2013-2014 and his latest visit in 2025. The talk will be followed by a workshop in which the British painter will give a demonstration of digital painting, analysing the various stages involved in this technique – a technique of which, as a professor of art at Bath University, he has specialist knowledge.

The event will include a live web link with another British painter, Doug Patterson, who also worked on Mount Athos and was the inspiration behind the DOUG PATTERSON - ROYAL COLLEGE OF ART - MOUNT ATHOS CENTER DRAWING BURSARY.
Tim Vyner, a professor at the University of Bath in Britain, was the first recipient of this bursary, which led him to visit Mount Athos in 2013, where he stayed at various monasteries, sketes and kellia, walked along the footpaths, experienced the daily life of the monks and pilgrims, and, in a unique and sophisticated way, recorded scenes of everyday life in the Athonite state, the architectural complexes and the natural environment.

The event is open to the general public.
