On Sunday 30 March 2025 the group photography exhibition entitled ‘Easter on Mount Athos’ was officially opened in Itea. The exhibition was first presented in Thessaloniki in 2024, in the exhibition space of the Mount Athos Center, as part of the programme of events organised by the Municipality of Thessaloniki for its 2024 ’Devotional Week’. This year the exhibition was included in the programme of events organised to celebrate the 130th anniversary of the foundation of the Church of the Transfiguration of the Saviour in Itea, and was held in the town’s old school building, which lies next to the church.
The exhibition was officially opened by His Eminence Theoktistos, Metropolitan of Phokis, and was also attended by the hieromonk Theophilos Pantokratorinos, the Very Reverend Archimandrite Nektarios Kalyvas, vicar of the Church of the Transfiguration of the Saviour, Mr. Anastasios Douros, director of the Mount Athos Center, priests from local churches, local community officials and many members of the general public.
After the blessing, the director of the Mount Athos Center showed the Metropolitan and other visitors around the exhibition. During the tour, he talked about the special character of Easter on Mount Athos and the preparations for it, as well as the processions of miracle-working icons that are held in Karyes and other Athonite monasteries on the second and third day after Easter. He also spoke about the work of the photographers whose photographs were presented in the exhibition. Finally, Mr. Douros thanked His Eminence Theoktistos and Archimandrite Nektarios Kalyvas for having invited the Mount Athos Center to stage the exhibition in Itea and for their fruitful collaboration in organising the event.
